Andrew Herndon – “Creatives in Arkansas are underdogs.”

Welcome to the very first edition of ‘50 States’, a very special series of Creative Chair’s, where we’ll be talking to creatives from all 50 of the United States of America, starting today with Andrew Herndon of Arkansas.

This week we’re with Andrew Herndon, a multi-talented designer who has created several typefaces which you can download for free from his Behance portfolio.

Andrew’s type design and digital photo art have been well received, with well over half a million project views on Behance alone.

We caught up with him to find out more about how his state has played a role in creative development.

Tell us a little bit more about yourself and what you do.

I’m a multidisciplinary designer interested in typography, branding and digital art. I am a freelance designer for the likes of Adobe, Guitar Center, Sony, Soulection, etc.

Wahndur

I own a small type foundry on Behance and also run an abstract alias called “wahndur” with about 95k followers.

The 60th 366 Award goes to Andrew Herndon for his outstanding creative work.

How has your state influenced the work that you do?

I live in Jonesboro, Arkansas. It’s a small quiet town with just about no creative purpose. I think I push harder to become known as a designer just because I’ve come from a city and state that’s creatively not known. Creatives in Arkansas are underdogs.

“There are very few creatives to connect with so you have to push hard”

Polar Thinking by Andrew Herndon

There are very few creatives to connect with so you have to push hard, and market yourself with different approaches to be known in the community. I enjoy that.

Of your own work, what is your favourite project and why?

I have projects that are enjoyable, and then I have projects that are fun to talk about. My favourite project would be creating Serena Williams logo and typeface for her and her Husband, Reddit founder, Alexis Ohanian. It was just a very fun large project for two extremely talented individuals. It’s been a fun talking point these last few months.

And finally, If you died and got reincarnated as a song, what would that song be?

Oh man, I don’t know haha. I guess Ducktails – Killin’ The Vibe
